Zwivhuya “Vhuyie da DJ” Pedro Muofhe has managed to crack the code in the music industry after becoming the most booked DJ. His success has meant that he is now earning a living through appearances at gigs and festivals. His name is climbing the ladder of popularity, fame and success, and he is ranked one of South Africa’s top DJs.
A resident of Shayandima near Thohoyandou, Limpopo, “Vhuyie da Dj” has just returned to working in the studio after mesmerising thousands of music lovers during the Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival 2019.
“As an artist I have only one mission, which is to get people dancing whenever I’m on the decks. My purpose as a DJ is to cater to the audiences’ musical appetites.”
“Vhuyie da DJ” first discovered his deejaying talent back in 2003 when his older brother bought him a personal computer (PC) which came with music software.
“I started playing around with songs. I have been mastering the art of mixing ever since then. And all I can say so far is that music is my life. I am music. Music is the only universal language spoken and understood by all people from every part of the world.”
Today, other artists and studios book him for services which range from mixing sounds to playing live on stage alongside the actual artist who might be performing.
“I bring a sense of ‘live performance’ to any artist’s performance. Hope you get me, bro…”
He has observed what a huge role music plays in fighting crime in South Africa – which has one of the highest crime rates in the world.
“The music industry is made up of a lot of different jobs like: administration, security, sound and light engineering, food catering, and styling musicians. So one doesn’t need to be a singer or a DJ to benefit from music. The community needs to stop underrating music and see the bigger picture in this industry.”
“Vhuyie da DJ” had this to say about his journey and genesis as an artist:
“Honestly speaking my mentor is the man in the mirror – myself. I always motivate myself to strive to be the best I can be. This gives me the pressure I need to put in hard work so that I don’t disappoint myself. But still, I can’t help but admire what other DJs have and are capable of achieving through music now that a platform has opened up for South African DJs to play overseas.”
He mentions the mighty Black Coffee for an inspiration. With Vhuyie da Dj, It is so much as looking at how much Black Coffee has achieved so far having to play or perform for multitude of crowds around the world doing what he loves most.
“He has paved a way for us. My aspirations connect to Black Coffee’s in that my main goal is too see myself in one of the big international stages making people dance. So seeing him already doing that, it kinda inspires me a lot to show that indeed it is possible no matter where one comes from. It’s a fact that going abroad does open a lot of doors for employment as one becomes big.”
He has a standing promise to his fans: “I am currently working on an EP which is to be released early next year. On it, I will be working with many local talents who include producers, singers and anyone else who will be needed to be part of the project.”
