Chase Rhys (They/Them)
Chase Rhys is a novelist, columnist, playwright and screenwriter from Ocean View in Cape Town. Their second book, Misfit – stories vannie anne kant is a compilation of new and reworked stories from their biweekly column in Rapport newspaper and Netwerk24. Set in Ocean View and the Far South the columns are written from Chase’s perspective as an autistic, queer, non-binary misfit. Their debut novel, Kinnes, won the 2019 K. Sello Duiker Award at the South African Literary Awards {SALA’s) as well as the kykNET-Rapport Prize and is the first full length fictional work written entirely in Kaaps to be published by a mainstream publisher. Kinnes is based on Chase’s Adam and Rosalie Small award winning play of the same name.
