Applications for FunDza Writing Fellowship 2023 are now open till 20 February!
Who can apply?
You need to live in South Africa, be between the ages of 18 to 25, and be passionate about writing!
What is it?
The FunDza Writing Fellowship is an intensive 6 month, part-time writing programme. By the end of the course you will have written a portfolio of pieces, and will be equipped to write stories, scripts, articles and blogs.
You receive:
– 10 online evening workshops where you learn different writing techniques and work with other fellows in a peer-supported writing community
– personal guidance and feedback on your writing assignments
– an online course you can complete in your own time
Dates:
Block 1: 7 March – 21 April: Non-fiction genres
Here you will produce:
– a creative non-fiction piece
– a personal opinion piece
– a factual researched piece
– an interview
(42 hours)
Block 2: 2 May – 2 June: Fiction – prose story
Here you will produce:
– assignments on short story writing – setting, plot, character and character conflict
– a flash fiction piece
(28 hours)
Block 3: 13 June – 14 July: Fiction – script
Here you will produce:
– assignments on scriptwriting – structure, character and plot
– a short dialogue
(21 hours)
14 July – 15 August: Final fiction assignment
– choice between a script or a short story
(21 hours)
8 September: Final graduation
Fellows will receive a small stipend which includes data for zoom sessions.
Successful applicants (a total of 20) will hear from us by 1 March. If you haven’t heard from us by then, please know that your application was unsuccessful.
As part of your application you will be submitting a descriptive piece of 500-700 words about your neighborhood. It is a good idea to prepare this before completing the application form.
