They came to me
Flowing like a river,
Flowing to the ocean
Taking me out of solitude.

It’s been years,
Now it seems like minutes.
When those memories come flowing,
They rejuvenate me.

Even though I have aged,
My skin wrinkled,
Eyes shutting down,
Knees trembling,
My soul is still caged in the past.

They came to me flowing,
Mesmerising my youthful years.
In those memories
I still see the young girl I was,
Beautiful, ambitious and courageous.

They came to me flowing,
Flowing like the Nile river
Reminding me of my youthful years
As an African girl.

They came to me flowing,
Flowing like the river Jordan
That empties into the dead sea.
Taking out all of my emptiness.

The came to me flowing,
Flowing like the Zambezi River.
Flowing from South to west,
Reminding me the years when
I knew where I was coming and going.

They came to me
Flowing like the river,
Flowing to the ocean
Taking me out of solitude.
