When I look in the mirror

I see a survivor

I see so many reasons why I should make it in life

When I look in the mirror

I see pain and anger

I see a battling young lady who’s keeping it together

When I look in the mirror

I see depression

A lady who once lost control and emotions of herself

Yet she longs for tomorrow

I gaze silently in the mirror each day

To see this beautiful young lady who hides her sorrows through smiles

A lioness

I look in the mirror

And I see strength

A lady who’s been through tough times but never gave up

Like the strong woman she was raised to be, she picked herself up and continued with life

I look in the mirror

I see a body-shamed lady, a survivor of bullying because she didn’t fit in

I see a lady who found comfort and peace in the own skin

I look in the mirror

I see a broken girl with bottled-up visions of stories to tell

A lady who is trapped in her past

A scared lady with scars and wounds

A lady who learnt to live with each wound to this day

I look in the mirror

I see a lady who went through it all at a tender age but held each obstacle as it came.

I look in the mirror, and I see a reflection of myself

A reflection of imbokodo…
