The link between creativity and depression dates back to the Greeks. Plato suggested that playwriters and poets suffer from what he called “divine madness”.
This is not to say that all creative people will suffer from mental illness but if you are a creative, chances are very high.
Some research has said creativity causes mental illness but some say mental illness enhances creativity. Please note – saying it enhancing, is not to romanticize the illness.
The big difference between creativity and depression is how the mind deals with problems. When you are depressed the problem is the begging, middle, and end of the story, while when you are not depressed the problem is a puzzle waiting to be solved.
