Dear black child

Forgive yourself

For not being where thought you’d be by now

For times are tough

The world is rough

School gets annoying

Yet we’ve all been through it

At some stage

Finished or not

We all set foot

For dear black child

Forgive yourself

For not being where thought you’d be by now

Having matric

Nor a degree

Doesnt distinguish a future

We all want a better life

We all need money

For they say money doesn’t buy happiness

Yet lets be real

This is the real world

This is the new South Africa

Schools reject

Jobs fail us

Corona did its worst

For grants aint enough

As babies keep subsiding

And crime has no stop

Because wow

This is the new South Africa

So listen to me

Hear me loud and clear

As i say:

Dear black child

Forgive yourself

For not being where thought you’d be by now

Life is tough

As the world gets rough

Humble yourself

Hustle

Learn

And open that business you dream of

So dear black child

It’s not your fault

This us is the real world
