The village trees and mountains fold up as the big bus speeds through the valleys and forests. Tebogo hugs Gogo’s arm as he watches his home vanish in the dust, his heart sank into his chest and tears rolled down his sweet cheeks. Tebogo and Gogo were travelling to Gauteng ,from Mtubatuba to visit Tebogo’s long lost cousin Sphiwe .Tebogo was sad to leave his friends Thando and Jabu behind but he had promised to bring back gifts for them.

He was afraid of all the busy streets in Gauteng . He might get knocked off by a sprinting Ferari, Tebogo thinks to himself . Gogo assures Tebogo that she will be there to protect him throughout their journey. Tebogo smiled and cuddled Gogo as their journey got deeper. The bus hit the tar roads at last, nearing Parkstation.. The smell of fresh fruit and freshly baked amagwinya welcomed Gogo and Tebogo into the city. They got off the bus and Tebogo’s eyes were lost in the tall marble and concrete buildings that posed in front of him. Bright lights flashing colourfully into the sky. Taxis and people racing each other on one road. Tebogo held Gogo’s hand tighter as they made way to the bustop to wait for Sphiwe. “Wait here mfana wam as I go buy us something to ea,” said Gogo as she placed Tebogo next to a cellphone booth.

“Bring him here I’ll stay with him “,says a tall funny looking man with a long nose and red hair. The man was carrying a box full of rubbish. He shoved his hand in the box and came out with a blue rabbit toy and waved it in front of Tebogo’s face. Tebogo laughed at the rabbit’s funny little tail swaying in the air. Gogo nodded and disappeared between street vendors, searching for a meal big enough to fill Tebogo’s big tummy

“Look at this,” the funny looking man says to Tebogo as he sat down on the pavement. Tebogo looked shocked, wondering if the man was crazy .”Gogo will be angry to find you playing in the dirt.” Tebogo smirks angrily.”Come and see magic mshana, explore this box of magic and make out any toy you want with these materials,” saysthe funny looking man digging into the box with his tongue out and eyes popping out like large oranges on his face..

Tebogo bursts into laughter. “Haha you have big eyes mahlomakhulu!” Tebogo sings as he watches the man take out beautiful toys from his box.

“I make these out of recycled materials mshana,” says the funny-looking man. Tebogo’s jaw drops and he falls to the ground playimg with the toys. His toy airplane surfs the air high above the plastic cars. Tebogo grows fond of the city. Gogo finally comes with food and the funny-looking man gives Tebogo a few toys to take with.

“Gogo i will give this one to Thando and this one to Jack,” Tebogo brags happily to Gogo as they thank the funny-looking man for his kindness. “Gogo i don’t hate the city anymore there is some good to it, like the creative toy maker!” Tebogo says smiling to his ears. Gogo giggles and they wait for Sphiwe to come and fetch them patiently. But Tebogo was still abuzz with his toys, playing with them in joy.
