You are now going to write a poem inspired by a few of your metaphors and similes that you wrote previously.

Choose at least two (from the previous module – Playing with images).

Then elaborate on each image for about two or three lines.

So your first line will be: I am a ____/ or I am like a ____
Your next two or three lines will elaborate on that image.
Then your next stanza will start with another image: I am a ____/ or I am like a ____
Your next two or three lines will elaborate on that image.

Read the example below: see how the first line is the image, and then the rest of the lines are extending and explaining that image in some way.

I am as creative as a red curtain
Filtering the light making it warm and bright
Blocking out the darkness
Opening to the fresh new morning

I am the sweet tree of love
My branches where children play
My green leaves dancing in the sun
My roots drawing nourishment from my ancestors.

I am as fragile as a wine glass
Clear and pure
Cool and smooth
But when dropped – I shatter.

Look at this lovely example of one where the poet used a few different images to explore different sides of herself: I am a house on fire

Now submit your poem but make SURE YOU HAVE YOUR OWN COPY ON PAPER so you can read it out later.
