Dear Editor

MORE VIOLENT CRIME IN WEMBLEY ESTATE

Wembley Estate has experienced another incident of violent crime (as reported in your newspaper, “Robbers attack Children” on 13 April 2020). This situation highlights the overgrown open spaces in our neighbourhood that need the community to make them safe.

Criminal attacks are on the increase. Police statistics show that crime has gone up by about 30% lately. Many of these attacks are happening in the overgrown bushes of our open spaces. These are used regularly by school children on their way to and from school.

I call on our community to come together to clear the overgrowth and make them safe places for our children to walk and play. I don’t want my child, or your child, to be the next victim of these gangsters.

The violent crime in our area will only be reduced if we create open spaces that are safe. We need to tackle this problem together.

Yours faithfully

Kathima Bothma
