The editor of the school online magazine is interviewing the new Chairperson of the SRC.

Interviewer: Today I am interviewing Jasmine Bok, just elected Chairperson of the SRC. Congratulations. It was a close race. What do you think won it for you?

Jasmine Bok: Thanks. I think I won because of maximum support from the girls. They know it’s time a girl is chair and brings about some pro-girl changes in the school.

Interviewer: Such as …? What’s top of your agenda?

Jasmine Bok: Well, we’ll run a year-long campaign, you know, creating awareness about how girls in our school are treated as inferior sex objects. I want girls to be empowered to stand up against cat calling, use of sexist terms like ‘bitch’, ‘ho’ and ‘chick’ and against sexual harassment.

Interviewer: But many girls themselves use those terms and use boyfriends to buy them stuff. What’s your response to this?

Jasmine Bok: I hope my campaign will help them see that this disempowers all of us and creates the climate for sexual harassment and sexism to happen. It’s all about awareness and education.
