  • Statements give information. They end in a full stop. Example: Simphiwe is feeling well today.
  • Questions ask for information. They often begin with “who”, “what”, “which”, “when”, “where”, “why” or “how”. They end in a question mark. Example: How is Simphiwe feeling today?
  • Exclamations express emotions. They often end in an exclamation mark. Example: I am so relieved that Simphiwe is feeling well today!
  • Imperatives give commands, orders or instructions. They begin with the verb. They may end in an exclamation mark. Examples: Go and check how Simphiwe is feeling. Hurry up!
