Some descriptive adjectives are formed from verbs or nouns by adding an ending. Common endings for adjectives are –able, -al, -ic, -ive, -ful, -less,- ous, -en, for example:

  • I enjoyed (verb) the performance. It was an enjoyable performance.
  • That man has a lot of influence (noun). He is influential.
  • She is an artist (noun). She is very artistic.
  • The idea attracts (verb) me. It is an attractive idea.
  • There is a lot of beauty (noun) in the world. It is a beautiful world.
  • You should rest (verb) now. You are very restless.
  • Beware of the danger (noun)! It’s a dangerous place.
  • The chair is made out of wood (noun). It’s a wooden chair.
