Irony exists when what happens is very different from what is expected or intended/meant to happen or, when a person expresses very different feelings from what they mean or intend Examples: A man checks all his tyres and, as he drives out his garage, he gets a flat tyre. (This is ironic because he had just checked his tyres and so you expect that there will be no problem) He says, “Wonderful! What a great start to my day!” (This is ironic because he actually means the opposite – it is a terrible start to the day!)
