DUMI: Lebo, just explain to me why you won’t even consider–

LEBO: (cutting him off) Are we honestly still talking about this? Dumisani, I do not want to have a baby right now, or in the near future for that matter. For goodness sake – we have only been married for four years. What is the rush?

She sits down on the couch, picks up files off the coffee table, and puts them in her bag.

DUMI: (yelling) You are career obsessed, you know that?! All I want is to start a family and you won’t even consider this because of your selfish reasons. Reasons that actually have nothing to do with how long we’ve been married!

LEBO: Honestly Dumi, I don’t want to have this discussion any more.

DUMI: Because you know that I am right! Tell me that the reason you are so reluctant to have a baby isn’t because of the possible promotion coming up at work? (pacing in frustration) Why can’t you put your marriage first, for a change?

LEBO: Dumi, this has nothing to do with a promotion. And don’t act like this is all new to you. You knew when we met that I was ambitious and had goals set for my career. Nothing has changed. I still have so much I want to accomplish, career-wise.

DUMI: (Walks over to the dining room table, leans against it and sighs.) I remember the first time I met you. You were telling off some guy for treating you like a defenseless woman. In varsity you were ambitious and worked hard, but you also cared about our relationship and my feelings. Now that’s all changed.

LEBO: In varsity you respected my goals and supported me whole heartedly. I–

She stops mid-sentence when she notices the stricken look on Dumi’s face. She stands up and walks towards her husband, puts her arms around his neck and kisses him passionately.

LEBO: Baby I love you and I know how important this is to you. (takes a deep breath) So I will consider it. Give me some time to think it over, so we can have a practical plan moving forward.

DUMI: (Kisses her forehead then her cheek lovingly.) That is all I ask. I want us to both want this. I mean, don’t you want to see little mini-me running around? In the beautiful house we’ll be moving into, in just two months?

LEBO: That sounds amazing honey. (Giggles and kisses her husband.)
