The next day at a soccer match with another school, Nozi walks to the pitch and sits next to Joseph on the bench.

JOSEPH: Nozi, hi. What you doing here?

NOZI: I’m covering the match for the school newspaper.

JOSEPH: (disappointed) Oh!

NOZI: I’m meant to speak to other team mates too; mind if I ask you a few questions?

JOSEPH: Sure, but I don’t play much so I don’t think I’ll be much help.

NOZI: I’m also doing a survey about the dance. Who are you taking?

JOSEPH: No one.

NOZI: Why not?

JOSEPH: Honestly, I don’t know how to talk to girls. I haven’t got a date.

NOZI: I’m a girl and you’re talking to me, aren’t you?

JOSEPH: Yes, but you’re different.

Silence.

NOZI: I better go take some pictures. Bye!

JOSEPH: OK, I’ll see you.

Nozi walks off as Athi approaches.

ATHI: What did she say?

JOSEPH: Nothing, just asked questions for the school paper.

ATHI: Oh wow! That’s some serious let-down.

JOSEPH: I’m such an idiot.

The whistle blows and the coach calls Joseph on to the field.

COACH: OK, Jansen. We’re one man down and we need you to get in there now.

JOSEPH: But, coach …

COACH: Jansen, there’s no one else. Just get in there. You don’t have to do anything – just be on the field or else we’ll lose the match.

Tell us: why do you think Nozi asked Joseph about who he was taking to the dance?
