Update on Woo

Woo’s history of public engagements is extensive. In 2009 she travelled to the UK to address the Greenock Westburn Church of Scotland congregation about HIV and ARV workshops. While there she also appeared on television.

In June 2011 she was featured in the Sunday Tribune, a weekly KZN paper, as one of nine inspirational South Africans under the age of 30 who are making a positive contribution to society. She was a member of the Vhutshilo Children’s ARV support group who participated in the October 2011 ‘Children Say’ Yezingane Network survey. And in December of that year she was one of the main speakers at a World AIDS Day celebration held at Siloam hospital. She also played one of the principal roles in a drama the children’s support group staged to educate and encourage children from other groups.

Early in 2012 Woo participated in a panel discussion organised and facilitated by the TVEP (Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme) that was attended by health workers from three local clinics. The little go-getter was also awarded a scholarship to attend Grade Eight at Ridgeway College, an Independent Secondary School in Louis Trichardt, as part of their Sumbandila Scholarship Trust for children from rural schools. She worked hard to bridge the academic gap, but her diligence and commitment paid off.
