Jade stood at his open office door. Sanders looked up and smiled. “Oh thank God! I’d been praying you’d give me a chance to explain.”

He came to her and tried to take her in his arms and she stepped back. He looked at her confused.

“What did you do?” she asked him.

“What? Have you gone insane? Nothing, I’ve done nothing.” He came towards her, his hands outstretched. “Come on, baby, we’ve got something good here. Why do you want to mess things up?”

She slapped the handcuffs on his right hand and had it behind his back and locked to his left hand before he knew what she’d done.

“Sanders Selepe, I am arresting you for the murder of Tasneem Pillay. You have the right to remain silent…”

Detective Botha and Jade sat at the bar. In a million years Jade would have never thought that she and Detective Botha would become friends but, it seemed that slowly that was exactly what was happening.

“So how did Molly’s mother take the news?” Jade asked.

“We gave her a ‘Parental Guidance’ version and she survived. She’s not like me, married at twenty, mother, wife the whole deal. She’s lived a sheltered life. No need to throw her in at the deep end.”

“But at least we got him. He won’t do that to another young woman,” Jade said, mentally accepting herself as being on his possible list of crime victims.

“Good work, Detective.” Detective Botha held her beer glass in the air and Jade clinked hers against it.

“Another case closed,” Jade said.

“Yep, another case closed.”
