Your Legends

Author: Eketsang Tšoaeli

Do you know the legends
of your own deeds?
Through the scorching sun
and frozen snows,
you never gave up.
But when I close my eyes,
I see something else,
I see a mother, a father,
a family.

They are holding the finest drinks,
and yet they lack “success”.
Do you know that when the wind
blows to the east, west, north and south,
it carries your dreams,
to every part of the world?

Do you know
that you’re a child of God?
So many boys and girls,
wishing to taste “success”,
but you are already legends.
You send words of wisdom,
words of encouragement,
into other people’s lives.

Saying, “Ngelinye ilanga nami ngizophumelela”.
I see you there, behind bars,
but deep down in your heart,
I see a person full of hope.
You only need God to take you out
of the muddy life you’re living.

No matter what mistakes you make,
God sees a better person in you.
Kea u bona Mama,
fela na u oa tseba hore u mohale?
For he may have beaten you up,
he may have broken your soul into pieces,
but one thing for sure is that,
u mosali oa ho tšoara thipa ka bohaleng.

Ah! A girl ba mo beta,
litokelo tsa hae eena?
Don’t they know she is our flower?
Well, I say shine bright,
you’re a star, my friend.

You – reading this,
Have faith in yourself,
Because you’ve given somebody else strength.
