I have three units to study yet I’m so exhausted that the only thing that is in my mind is to fall asleep. Thanks to Sim! But one must not complain about time spent with family, even if it means you have to abandon your studies for a moment. In fact, one should be grateful. I mean, it’s not every day that Sim puts his books aside! It’s not every day that he comes to visit.

When he got here he said he was here to take me out! So sweet of him, right? Wait until you here his terms and conditions: I was the one who was going to foot the bill. What daylight trickery is that? My protests on how low on cash I was fell on uninterested ears. When I told him I was studying, he said the family had space for only one ‘nerd’ – and that was him. He practically dragged me to V&A Waterfront against my will.

But it was really worth it. For a moment, he managed to make me not think of books. And most importantly, I got to spend time and catch up with him. It’s not every day that Sim and I eat together anymore. Just as it is not every day that Sim admits that he is in love! What he usually does is blush coyly and laugh it off whenever the prospects of dating are mentioned.

But this time, I didn’t even have to ask him. “I’m in love, sisi,” he just blurted it out like an overfilled container that cannot withhold its contents anymore. To say the least, I was stunned. I just never thought I would hear him say that. Sim – now that’s a late bloomer. At 14, Sim has never had a tangible love interest! How queer is that?

My first gut feeling was to tell him that he shouldn’t rush things – but my senses advised against it. I mean, why must I tame him? Let him learn how to love for himself without anybody polluting his mind. You know, people think that love as a feeling is a universal thing, but in all honesty our experiences of love differ. I wouldn’t spoil the twinkle in his eyes by telling him to take caution.

In fact, I told him to jump in the sea of love and enjoy the swim. Now, I know mom will not be so proud of what I said to him. But, hey, it’s about time our parents grasp the fact that we don’t learn to love through their talks, but through instincts inside our hearts.
