MaMgobhozi is watching all of this from her window, and taking photos with her cellphone. She had also taken photos in the morning. As soon as Rhino disappears towards the flats at the back, she heads to the security guard.

“Qwabe!” MaMgobhozi snaps at the guard.

“How are you, Mama?”

“I am as you see me! What are you up to?”

“What are you talking about, Mama?”

“What are you, and the man who was here, up to?”

The security guard sprints out of his booth, looks around, and comes back to MaMgobhozi.

“What are you up to, Qwabe?!” MaMgobhozi screams at him.

“Shh! Shh!” the guard urges MaMgobhozi. “Did you also see that man?”

“If I didn’t, how would I know he was here?”

“Do you know him?”

“Know him from where? Who is he, and what are you two up to?”

“Mama, I don’t know him.”

“Don’t make a fool out of me, boy. If you don’t know him why did he give you a parcel?”

It is obvious to the guard that Mamgobhozi saw everything. He is at a loss for words.

“Speak, otherwise I will tell Mary’s father.”

“What does he have to do with anything?”

“The same man was at Mary’s flat this morning. And look here.” She takes out her cellphone and shows the guard photos of Rhino’s Porsche parked next to Mary at the taxi stop.

“Hawu! Who is the girl next to the car?”

“Don’t you see that is Mary, idiot?”

“I have never seen that car before.”

“Look at this one. What do you have to say about this one?” She shows the guard a photo of Rhino handing him a parcel.

The guard tries to say something but nothing comes out.

“Speak! What do you have to say?”

“Shhh! Don’t speak so loud,” he says, looking around. “Lower your voice, because he is a dangerous man.”

With fear in his eyes, he tells MaMgobhozi the whole story.

“When he comes back, Qwabe, make sure you take down his number plate,” whispers MaMgobhozi, her heart pounding.
