Looking for a job has never been easier in today’s age of technology, but finding a job is becoming increasingly difficult. A report by StatsSA stated,  “According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey for the first quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate was 63,9% for those aged 15-24 and 42,1% for those aged 25-34 years, while the current official national rate stands at 34,5%.”

Trying to make a difference for those desperately looking for a job, 22-year-old Mzamo Mbhele, developed the app, Job X. Job X helps you find a job based on your location. Mzamo explained that Job X was an app that he created to help young people between the ages of 18 to 35 find employment opportunities and apply for those opportunities.

“The idea for Job X came when I was looking for a part-time job for myself. As I was searching online, trying to find part-time employment, I joined so many Facebook groups where we shared job posts available. But what I realised was that the job posts were very inaccurate. People were sharing posts of jobs for skills that I did not possess or for qualifications that I did not have,” he explained.

Since Mzamo was struggling to find a job, he decided to build a platform that works for him. He wanted posts based on his location and his relevant skill set.

Mzamo said, “Currently, the biggest challenge for Job X is keeping everything free. Anyone can use the app free of data. The biggest challenge is making it free forever.”

The idea for the app was a simple one. Mzamo couldn’t be any more proud of his success, and those around him seemed to have noticed.

“I didn’t even have a thought that it would get this much media coverage. I just thought that if some people are getting some support from the platform that I’ve created, then that would be a huge achievement for me. Now with the spotlight and everything, I feel so overwhelmed. I need to make sure that there is nothing wrong with Job X. Anything that is wrong, I need to fix it immediately.”

Mzamo’s future plans for Job X include expanding the app to different countries in Africa. He shared his belief that many other African countries may be facing major job unemployment similar to South Africa, so they would find the app helpful.

Job X – Personal Experience

You can download the app on Google Play Store on your Android device. The app isn’t available on IOS devices just yet.

I will admit I was a little confused as to how to use the app at first, but after a while, I figured out how to navigate it. The app is basically different websites that can be found all in one place. For example, the app currently has links to SA Youth and Indeed, useful sites for job-seekers.

You can upload your qualifications, CV and other necessary documents onto the app to make the application process easier.

The app then matches you with jobs for your skill set and your location.

Final Word

With unemployment being at an all-time high, Job X brings some sort of comfort for those who are looking for a job without having to spend any money on data.

Happy job hunting!
