You don’t expect a guy who’s about to be interviewed on TV to be thinking about anything other than: “I’m gonna be on TV!” But I was.
Yep, you heard it right ladies and gentleman, I had an interview on TV – but all I was worried about was whether the hot female presenter liked me even though I was having a bad hair day. And when I say bad hair day, ladies and gents, I mean that time (usually at about three weeks with me) when my Xhosa hair is starting to grow out after a chiskop and it’s still too short to comb properly, so it looks really messy.
Getting back to the hot female presenter, I tried to get up the courage make a move on her, but I just felt like something was missing from my swag game and I ended up accepting defeat.
Long story short, I got to thinking about the millions of people out there who may be experiencing what I experienced.
How many people shy away from attention because they don’t feel confident if they aren’t wearing their favourite T-shirt, their favourite skinnies or even their favourite sneakers? Hell, it may even be those times when you don’t have a fresh hair-do done! The point is that what gives you confidence could be one of many different things, because, as they say: ‘different strokes for different folks’. (‘Different people like different things’, is how some say it).
Imagine feeling crappy (maybe you call it feeling sad, depressed, tired, bored, and so forth) almost all week long, but then on Friday morning you wake up and look in your wardrobe, or even in your mirror, and suddenly you realise: not all hope is gone! You can still end the week with a bang.
So what is it that you found in your mirror? Well, it could be that gorgeous smile of yours that your friends always go on about, or that gets lots of girls to notice you.
And in my wardrobe, you ask? Well, as I’ve said, it’s that one item of clothing that makes you feel special. It could be that nice navy-grey blazer, which goes so well with your dark-navy skinnies. Or, it could be that favourite T-shirt that has the words ‘I’m Awesome!!!’ printed in bold on the front.
And what happens when you re-discover this missing piece of your swag? Well, it depends on how crappy you were feeling when you didn’t have it, and how desperately you wanted it back.
Personally, I tend to feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders when I have a fresh chiskop. My smile becomes brighter and I fall in love with mirrors and posing for lots of pictures. The feeling is even better when I have my favourite shirt on. In those moments, my confidence is super-charged and even that hot presenter wouldn’t be able to resist my charms!
But the funny thing is though, she wasn’t even my type. I realised this when I saw her smoking outside their studios after the interview. (Let’s just say, for now, that smoking is not my thing.)
