This week we are finding ways to help you have your very own unique style and keeping it. We know how easy it is to get confused and feel overwhelmed by the many fashion and style choices that are out there. So this week we have 10 tips that are guaranteed to help you form your own unique style.

Visit us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates and pictures.

Tip 1: Style is personal

The first thing you need to know is that style is something personal and unique to you. For you to fully embrace or even know what your style is; you need to know what kind of a person you are. You can’t have a unique style if you don’t know what you like or dislike. There are a lot of fashion trends and not all of them will suit you. However, if you know what you are most interested in and take note of what you like, then it will make it easier for you to only purchase what works for you best.

Tip 2: Fashion is what you buy

You need to know that there is a difference between fashion and style. You can buy fashion but style is how you wear that fashion trend. So don’t expect to buy the latest fashion and think that it will look good, you need to personalise it to suit your needs.

Tip 3: Experiment and Document style

In order to start getting an idea of what works for you, you need to experiment with what is out there and document it. Meaning you should take note of what works for your body size, height, skin tone and what makes you feel good. Don’t look down on an outfit until you have tried it, who knows it might just be what works for you best. So make use of dressing rooms in shops before you decide to buy the outfit.

Tip 4: Have confidence in your style

The way you wear the clothes, the attitude and confidence portrayed says a lot and brings out your personality in your clothes. So learn to practice the way you talk, walk and even pose because your body confidence will make your clothes shine. Remember people don’t just see clothes walking around, they see you first, so leave a lasting impressing by being confident in yourself.

Tip 5: Create style mood boards

If you really struggle with understanding what your style is, you can make use of various internet sites like Tumblr or Pinterest to create boards of the different styles that speak to you. This will help you to start to see a pattern of what kinds of styles you like. If you don’t have internet access then use magazines to cut out pictures of the different style looks that you find interesting.

Tip 6: Photograph street style

For this tip you will need the consent of the people you are interested in taking a picture of. Ever walk down the street and see someone wearing an outfit that you wish you can wear? Well why not ask them if you can take a picture of their outfit. Some people will agree and others not so much. But the point of the exercise is so that you have an idea of the way that you can style an outfit or what you should be buying.

Tip 7: Organize your wardrobe

When you organize your wardrobe it gives you an idea of what you have or don’t have. You can organize your wardrobe by separating everything and storing it each according to each kind. Meaning t-shirts on their own, jeans on their own, etc… this will also give you an indication of what you need to buy more of and also the kinds of clothes you go for, which in turn helps you see what exactly your style is.

Tip 8: Make a detailed shopping list

When you go shopping you find that there are a lot of different fashion trends and styles that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Therefore making a list of everything you need to buy before going shopping will help you a lot. I have written a blog called Shopping Made Easy! Which has a lot of good tips that you can use for when you go shopping.

Tip 9: Shop for vintage pieces

You need to learn to shop at vintage or charity shops because that is where you find some really unique pieces which no one has. This not only creates diversity among your fashion collection, but it also helps you build your own unique style that no one has but you.

Tip 10: Have fun with style

Style is an expression of yourself, so learn to have fun with it. Buy things that speak to you and not just because they are in season.

I hope you found these tips helpful and let me know of what has helped you build your own unique style. Also send us suggestions of topics you would like us to write on next. #keepittrendi
