Ever felt like you just can’t afford to buy new clothes every time the weather changes, and wished there was a way you could still look cool, hip with what you already have all year? Well this is the blog for you.

I, like many of you can’t afford to go on a shopping spree every time the seasons change and I sometimes stand in front of the mirror for hours deciding what to wear. And if you stay in Cape Town you know how unpredictable the weather can be sometimes. It’s four seasons in a day; you wake up to winter then halfway during the day its summer all over again. In this week’s blog I have the help of Zinzi from the sister blog Dairy of Zinzi Zwane giving me tips on what she does to transform her summer outfits to winter ready.

When asked what she does with her clothes when it comes to winter this is what Zinzi said:

What do I do with all my summer clothes? Do I put those minis and summer dresses away? No. Definitely not! I must incorporate some of them into my winter wear.

Just Trendi Tips

I guess I am not the only one who says “no” to putting away summer clothes just because winter is at the door.

Just Trendi: What helpful tips can you give us that we could use to transform our summer wear into winter ready?

Zinzi Zwane: Leggings are a must-have. You can wear them with your summer dress or shorts and still look absolutely amazing. Another must have during winter are a pair of boots. Personally, I prefer knee-length boots.

I definitely I agree with Zinzi, although I bashed down on see through leggings in the blog ‘Fashion Fails’ here is a much better use of them. Wearing see through leggings under your mini dresses can help you transform your summer dress into winter outfit. If you don’t have leggings use stockings as they do just about the same trick. I personally prefer stockings as they cover my toes as well and keep me warm whereas with leggings I still have to wear socks.

Knitwear is another item which you can use to accessories your summer outfit into winter. Knitwear can be used in the form of Jumper, Sweater or Cardigans and it also keeps you warm while you show off your miniskirts or leggings.

Layering and colour blocking are tools that you can take advantage of in winter. All those Tees you have in the wardrobe but didn’t know when/how to wear them, well winter is the perfect time to show them off. You can mix ‘n match different colours; don’t just stick to dark colours like black, dark blue or brown.

Change things up and have fun with the floral print and the different fabric textures. Winter is a time where most people don’t actually care how they look because it’s cold and they immediately assume that it’s OK, but it’s important to note that you still can be stylish and warm at the same time.

Boots are essential for winter and they can really help take your outfit to the next level. Zinzi mentioned that she likes Knee-length boots, those are super cute in winter. They can look awesome with a pair of skinny jeans or even the idea of Mini dresses with stockings or leggings. I think that ankle boots are super, but hey that’s just me.

One item that I think everyone should own, if they don’t already, that will really lift your look up is a scarf. Yep, I love these especially because of how unpredictable Cape Town weather is and because they come in different colours, shapes and sizes. They are guaranteed to work with any outfit in any season and you can also play around with how it is tied.

Something that I debated with my friend on is Maxi dresses. A friend of mine thinks that they just can’t possibly work for winter and I think they can definitely work. What do you think? How would you sass up you Maxi dress this winter?
