Robyn Williams is a sassy, creative and vibrant young fashion blogger. She is also an aspiring business woman. Her blog, ‘I am Gemini’ has reached 2k followers in just one year. Her blog shows that you don’t need to have tons of money to be stylish. It all depends on how you style yourself.

JT: Who is your biggest style icon?

RW: I think designer Gert-Johan Coetzee. He is my role model. I like the clothing he designs. I like his style and the way he dresses.

JT: What motivated you to start your own blog?

RW: I liked fashion since I was young. I was always that “girly” girl with the bags and stuff. I have a lot of clothes, so my friends would always come here before we go out and they would end up wearing my clothes. Before we go out they would send me messages asking what I think they should wear and they would send me pictures of their outfits. One of my friends, Tarrin Moolman encouraged me to go for it. I told her one day that I actually want to start a blog. I was two-minded about it because I thought people might not like it but she said, “Robyn, just give it a try, if it works it works if it doesn’t it doesn’t.”

JT: How did you come up with the name?

RW: I am a Gemini firstly, and secondly the quote, “For the Gemini, style is the very essence of who they are.” I read that quote and it is what made me.

JT: What is your dream job?

RW: I want to be a personal shopper/ wardrobe stylist/ fashion blogger. I’m studying BCom General now and last year I had no idea what I wanted to do. My dad has his own company, I always relied on falling back on his business if things didn’t work out for me. But then I thought since I am doing my own business degree, I can start my own fashion company. I want to style for celebrities, sorting out their outfits for events and I would like to start my own shoe range.

JT: How would your friends describe you in three words?

RW: I think they’d say I’m creative. Because I actually did all of the decor for my friend’s baby shower and made the decorations. Fun – I think they’d say I’m fun, because they always want me along when they go out. And talkative, because I know I talk a lot!

JT: What is a style secret you can share with girls?

RW: Not everyone knows this, but I have a really big tummy so I wear high wasted jeans or I would buy jeans that are two sizes too big. Then I would pull them up to hide the tummy. It’s all about dressing accordingly.

JT: How do you keep up with the latest fashion trends?

RW: I always follow up on what the celebs are wearing on Instagram. I’ll make use of the hash tags to see what’s happening in the fashion industry.

JT: Which trend do you wish would come back in style?

RW: That’s one to think about.. I think those denim jackets with the fur, it would be cool for winter.

JT: Which trend is not in style that you’re happy about?

RW: Those wide piped pants. I hate that.

JT: What advice would you give anyone wanting to be fashion blogger?

RW: It’s tough. It’s really tough because there are a lot of people doing it – everyone wants to be a blogger. You have to believe in yourself and work hard; you have to sit down and do research. What I do is, I follow bloggers who are already established out there then I learn from them.
