The year is coming to an end and for most people, family holidays are about to end and work or school deadlines are looming once again. With Christmas come and gone and the festive season about to end, let’s reflect on the year and the goals we made.

I always feel that it’s best to unwind at the end of any activity you do because it relaxes the mind and prepares it for the next task. So this week I have a few helpful tips to help you get a new perspective in preparation for not only the year coming to an end but also the beginning of a new one.

Spend time alone

Some people love to be surrounded with like-minded people or just prefer to be in a crowd all the time. That is good, but it’s always great to find some “alone” time. You need to be able to spend time by yourself and get comfortable with yourself. This helps you form your very own identity so that you don’t lose yourself in a crowd.

You can spend time alone reading a new book, discovering hobbies and just doing things that you love. It’s good for the mind and good for you to build your own character. It will also help you reflect on what you have done throughout the year and set some new goals.

Write in a journal/diary

Writing in a journal or even keeping an online journal is good because it helps you keep in touch with your inner self. Over time you can revisit what you wrote and get a better sense of who you really are. I used to not like keeping a journal because I wanted to keep things in my head, but I realised that having too many things bottled up is not always a good thing. So if you don’t have a really close friend to off-load to, then writing things down can be a good for you and will help your mind ease off the stress.

Get rid of people who pull you down

Stop keeping “friends” who don’t add value to your life or who aren’t motivating you to be where you want to be in life. As the year comes to an end, you should, by now, have picked up on the people who don’t seem to embrace change and who keep repeating last year’s problems this year. These are people you should probably start getting rid of because these people will only hold you back. Also, don’t feel guilty about letting these people go; they will only keep draining your energy and will always have something negative to say. You will feel so much better and even aspire for greater things if you keep people who add value to your life even if it’s just one person.

Clean your closet, house, room, your space

Give yourself a spring clean. Stop holding onto things that no longer fit or things you no longer use. Stop saying you will use them later when you know you will never use them again. Go through your house, room, and closet and take out all the items that you no longer need, donate them to charity or give them to someone who needs them. If you haven’t used it for the whole year then that is a sign it needs to be donated. By getting rid of things you no longer need you not only create the space to buy new items but you can also revamp your look.

Set new goals and resolutions

As the year comes to a close, start planning your new goals for next year. I always feel that ‘New Year’s resolutions’ should be done at the end of the previous year and not in January of the New Year, because then you start the New Year knowing what you want to do. So prepare your mind now for the year coming and remember ‘your life is your mind and your mind is your life’.
