This week’s blog has been written by our new intern Rinchen, who is a fashion enthusiast like myself. So please give her some love and comment below and let her know what you think of the blog.

Recently there has been a widespread outcry on social media against unrealistic beauty standards. Most women say that they feel pressured by society to look a certain way. The majority of the time the pictures of women we see in magazines and on the internet have been heavily photoshopped to look thinner or more toned. This has created unrealistic beauty standards because the models don’t even look like the woman in the pictures!

Personally I’ve always struggled with body confidence. At school I often got made fun of for having bigger legs and being curvier than others. I was called “tree trunk legs” and told that I looked like an “elephant” on a daily basis which really damaged my body confidence. I remember when I was younger I used to look up to celebrities and wish that I looked more like them. It was only when I realised that the only person who could change my negative body image was myself that I began to love myself and my body.

My message to you all today is that whether you are curvy, skinny, petite, tall or short we are all beautiful. I’ve found the key to loving yourself and body is building up your body confidence.

Here are a few tips to help you feel more confident about yourself and your body:

1. SAY NICE THINGS TO YOUR BODY

The first thing you need to try and do is stop telling yourself you’re fat or that you should lose a few kilos. Every morning when you look in the mirror say one thing you like about your body. You are beautiful and so is your body! If you wouldn’t tell your best friend “You’re ugly and those jeans make you look fat!” then don’t say it to yourself. Love your body and be kind to yourself!

2. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS

Almost everyone has, at some point in their lives, had a problem with body confidence. The girl in your class who you think has the perfect body most likely also has body confidence issues. Be nice to one another and proud to be a woman. We should all be empowering each other and loving all body types rather than bringing each other down!

3. HEALTHY IS BEAUTIFUL

As long as you are healthy, you and your body are beautiful! Don’t starve yourself – try to eat good food and do some form of exercise. This will help boost your confidence; if you’re feeling healthy you’ll feel happier and more confident.

4. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO LOVE YOUR BODY

It is OK to not have the ‘perfect’ body. No-one is flawless (you didn’t wake up like that) and no-one has the perfect body. Stop worrying about getting a ‘bikini body’! If you have a body and you have a bikini then you have a bikini body! Wear that cute little number with pride and confidence – there is only one you and you are beautiful!

5. WEAR WHAT YOU MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD

If you feel the best about yourself in a baggy t-shirt and jeans then that’s great, but don’t judge other girls if they like wearing a bodycon dress. You do you! When you think you look great, you’ll feel more confident so only wear clothing that makes you feel good but also don’t be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone!

Just remember girls – being confident within your body will make you happier than any diet or amount of exercise ever could! Love yourself, be kind to yourself and don’t forget that we are all beautiful!
