In a cabin somewhere in the woods, Lindi was watching Monroe, who was now 21 years old, chop wood through the window. When they left the warehouse 13 years earlier, Lindi did not go back to the protectors. Instead, she found the woods, built the cabin and raised Monroe as her own. She taught him everything she knew, from how to fight to how to how to control his power and some other little bit of education. No one had found them since then, and they hardly went to the city.

Lindi opened the window. “Can you take a break for a minute? I made you something to eat.”

Monroe walked inside the cabin and, when he arrived at the small kitchen, he found a sandwich waiting for him on the table.

“Thanks sister Lindi,” Monroe said. He then sat down opposite Lindi, and she smiles at him and slid an envelope on the table.

“What’s this?” Monroe asked, speaking with his mouth full.

“Open it,” Lindi said.

Monroe opened the envelope and found a fake identity card and some other papers. “What’s all of this?” he asked, looking confused.

“I made those before we got here,” Linda said. “I knew that one day I will have to let you go.”

While Linda was speaking, a look of worry spread across Monroe’s face. “Letting me go?” he asked, his voice sounding even more confused.

“The time has come for you to have a social life. So I’m sending you to the University of Cape Town.”

Monroe took a long look at the papers again, and when he saw a fake birth certificate and a fake high school certificate he smiled. “Really?” he asked. “I’m finally going to be around people?”

Monroe had been waiting for that day for as long as he could remember, but Lindi had always said to him that he wasn’t ready as yet.

“I think you are ready now,” Lindi said. “Plus, it’ll be really good for you to have a social life. You’ve missed out over the years, but I’m sure you understand the reason why I had to keep you in these woods.”

“Yes,” Monroe said, nodding his head. “I understand sister Lindi. And I promise I won’t let you down and I’ll be very careful.”

“You have to keep your eyes open every time, Monroe. Just because you’ve grown up doesn’t mean they won’t come for you.”

“I will watch my back, so you don’t have to worry about me. But what about you, though? Are you going to stay here all alone?”

“I’ll come with you,” Lindi said.

“Sister Lindi, come on,” Monroe said, complaining to his caretaker. “I’m an adult now and I can look after myself. You don’t have to babysit me.”

“Relax. You won’t even know I’m there. I’ll get a job somewhere close, just in case you need me. You can’t really expect me to let you go all on your own now, do you? And besides, it’s not only the Creas that will be after you, but the protectors will be too.”

When Monroe realised and understood the danger, he opened the fake Identity book. “So my new name is Roy Renwick, huh?” he aksed.

“It’s a nice name. Catchy. And I’m sure the girls will like it,” Lindi said, winking.

Feeling happy and excited that he was going to university, Monroe laughed. “So, when are we leaving?”

“Tomorrow, so you better pack your stuff.”
