I stood at the gate and walked in, I saw many pupils who were talking. The boys and girls had the same uniform as mine except the girls had grey skirts. Then a man with blue eyes and blonde hair walked up to me.

“Hi, I’m Elmer, the school’s peer educator,” he said.

“You must be Kay, let me take you to the administration so that you can know your class.”

We arrived, and before I could thank Elmer he just, sort of, disappeared – quite strangely, if you ask me. I walked into the administration and I was given class 10M. I thanked the person who gave me the card with my class on it and I walked to my class. I knocked on the door and a female teacher who looked exactly like Ariana Grande opened the door for me,
“Come in,” she said. “You’re late for music class. Please introduce yourself to the entire class.”

I walked in and looked at the entire class, took a deep breath and said, “Hello every one, my name is Kay.”

Then everyone started whispering to each other. I didn’t know what the chatter was all about. I sat down and, to my surprise, I was the only African in the class, the rest of the kids were of other races. I later found out the music teacher’s name was Mrs. Sophie.

“Kay, please sing for us. It is mandatory for today’s lesson. All of the pupils in this class have sung a song, all except you, so I’m going to need you to come up front and sing for us.” Mrs. Sophie said.

I am good singer but I never sung in public before. There is a first time for everything, besides how hard could it be? I thought to myself. So I walked up to the front of the class and began to sing, I sung Shallow by Pentatonix and by the time I was done there was cheering in the class, everyone was cheering all except three pupils; one boy and two girls. They seemed to dislike me.

When it was break time, I walked into the school cafeteria. I sat down on a desk with plenty of room left, then I took out my snacks; I just love apple my juice. Before I could even enjoy my food, three pupils walked up to me; one boy, two girls. The boy was British and he had a natural dark eyeliner. He dyed his hair tips pink and he had a pink heart-shaped sticker on his right cheek. One of the girls was Japanese and she looked like an anime character. She wore her skirt up to her belly button so that more of her legs would show. The other girl was a dark South African with long curly kinky hair and black eyes.

“May we please sit with you?” the boy asked.

“My name is Lewis and anime here is Norimitsu but she prefers to be called Nori, and she is Zanele.”

“Yeah, you can sit with me, my name is Kay, and there is lots of room here,” I replied.
They all sat and took out their food, I later found out that the heart shaped sticker on Lewis’s cheek was actually a tattoo and that he had gray hair – that’s all the information I could get. We laughed and talked about lots of things. When school was over, the four of us exchanged WhatsApp phone numbers and ate one of Nori’s Japanese snacks. I looked at the hallway watch and it read “4:00 PM.”

“Guys, my mom will be here to pick me up soon,” I said.

“So I have to go to the parking lot, bye, I’ll talk with you on WhatsApp.”

When my mom arrived, I got in the car.

“How was school?” she asked.

“It was great,” I warmly replied.

She drove off at top speed, as usual.
