Three weeks after the Durban auditions, Ayammah had accepted that Sihle was not around. At least she got to watch him on TV doing what he does best. She was very proud of him. The show was now drawing to a close. Only two people remained and it was difficult to tell which one deserved it more between Sihle and Melokuhle.
They both were put through some physical tests, including a drug test. It was compulsory for the final stage of the completion. Sihle, as weird fate would have it, was tested by Dumisani’s personal doctor, also employed by the record label and Melokuhle was tested by another doctor.
Their energy on stage was amazing. It made the show every one’s favourite and it turned out to be a success. America was now also going to have Poetic Voices. Usually things start in America and S.A copies them, like So You Think You Can Dance, Idols and S.A’s Got Talent.
All those were copied from America. But for the first time, America was to copy something from S.A. That’s how great a success the show was. Usually Durban won many talent shows, so people had Sihle banked as the winner. But Melokuhle had brought her A game and she was taking no prisoners, just stealing voters’ hearts.
It was all up to the voters and the whole country had to wait for three days to know who the master of words in S.A. was
The day everyone had been waiting for had arrived. Dumisani was the only one who knew the truth. Both Sihle and Melokuhle gave only love poems, in these poems it was as if they were talking to each other. As if they were trying to prove who loves who more. Although people were thinking they did love each other no one could tell who loved who more.
Sihle told Ayammah that he thought of her whenever he wrote those poems and the words would just come. Dumisani was the guest judge and he was scheduled to speak before the results could be announced.
“You, viewers at home, decided to keep my daughter in this competition until this far by voting. So she is here because she deserves to be. And well I have got something more to say,” Dumisani said, his voice shaking through the microphone.
“Come on dad,” Melokuhle said, thinking her dad was going to say something very nice about her, that would make her blush in front of S.A.
“I am not a good guy as many of you think. I’m not proud of my past and it should remain as the past. But the truth is, it’s coming back to haunt me now. In the past, when I was young, I had a child. I was so young and stupid, scared and I abandoned my child.”
The crowd gasped. And the auditorium went dead still. You could hear a pin drop.
“Now today I found something precious, in a way that only fate could’ve done it. I have found the son I lost.” Dumisani was now looking at Sihle. The audience saw it and gasped louder. Sihle turned and looked at Duminsani, who was nodding, then to Melokuhle who was crying.
“Through the tests that were done here today, I found out that I am Sihle’s biological father.” Said Dumisani.
As if both following their cue after Dumisani’s bold declaration, Melokuhle and Sihle fainted.
