Melokuhle and Ayammah could not believe their ears. Sihle was gone for good “A car accident, how do you know it’s really him? Did you even confirm the body?” As Melokuhle asked Ayammah was just seating there not saying any word. Tears explained her resentment.
“Yes baby, I saw him and it’s him.”
It was not long before they had a memorial service. People came in numbers to say goodbye to their hero, he had a lot of fans. Among the people who were going to deliver a speech was Melokuhle and Ayammah. Melokuhle’s turn came. She was not bold and certainly not hyper as she usually was.
“I will miss Sihle in many ways, he was more than just a brother to me he was everything. In fact I had deep feelings for him, I was in love with him and that is why he is dead. I killed him.” People made din; Melo continued while the noise went down.
“If Ayammah does not forgive me there is no way I can live. Ayammah was never on drugs or selling them. I bought them and put them in Ayammah’s bag only because I was jealous of her. Ayammah I know your husband is gone now but please forgive me!” Melokuhle was crying she couldn’t continue talking.
Thembeka fainted as she could not believe her ears. She knew Melokuhle was bad but she didn’t know she is brutal, but she quickly woke up. Ayammah’s turn came.
“Melokuhle I forgive you, I did long ago but I just cannot live without Sihle, I just can’t. I’m going to deliver a poem I was supposed to deliver in our wedding day.” In the last line of the poem where it says but you are this moment and it’s beautiful, Ayammah said :”But you are gone and this moment is the deepest pain I ever felt in my life.”
Just when Ayammah finished, Sihle walked in with an old lady and an old man, people ran afraid of a ghost but this woman spoke.
“No don’t run this is not a ghost it’s Sihle you are burying the wrong person. It’s our son you are burying. Sihle had an identical twin brother. His mother was way too poor to raise them both so she gave one of them for adoption. Me and my husband adopted him and that is him you are burying.” Thembeka asked in tears.
“Where is his mom?” Ayammah answered in murmur.
“She passed away two years ago!”
