Lukhanyiso placed the picture next to his bedside lamp and stared at the clock, it was 10:00, just two more hours until he can see his own mother. He was very excited. As he lay on his bed, the time went fast and before he knew it, it was 23:45. His father was already asleep, perfect timing to creep away into the night. He got out of bed and tip-toed to his closet, he then took out his light-blue coat and his white boots. He wore the extra clothing and took a flashlight from his drawer. He tucked the picture inside his coat.

Lukhanyiso then opened his door slowly and snuck out of his bedroom and into the passage… he continued walking slowly until he reached the door, he turned the key and opened the door; he then stepped onto the red stoep and closed the door behind him. The fog drifted below Lukhanyiso’s area, he couldn’t see a thing, the fog was deep and it was thick. He walked down the stoep and opened the gate… he was now on the street at the night without a guardian… he was alone but not scared at all. He felt brave.

He remembered the houses and continued to walk down the street, but as he walked he felt like he was being followed. Something was trailing behind him and using the fog to hide itself from Lukhanyiso who began to walk faster as he heard loud footsteps behind him that also accelerated pace as he did.

He broke into a run as he zoomed deeper to the fog… Lukhanyiso was really fast. Each step that was placed in the ground made the boy fear whatever was chasing him more and more scared.

Lukhanyiso fell on the ground with force after a beautiful run, he then got up slowly but before he could stand on his feet a rock zoomed past him and a groan verbalised behind the eight year old. A set of rocks flew past Lukhanyiso and hit the chaser multiple times. Then a hand appeared from the mist and took Lukhanyiso’s hand and pulled him away from the chaser.

Lukhanyiso didn’t object or resist the hold, he ran with whatever helped him. They ran far until they came up to a street with less fog, they rested there and collected air, well Lukhanyiso did but the helper didn’t. Lukhanyiso knew that what had just helped him from the chaser was an unsettled soul. He wanted to test his ability. So he followed the instructions in order to activate the Divine Sight. He closed his eyes shut, clasped his hands together then chanted a line that unlocked the ability.

“Oh Divine Entity,

Permit me to use the Divine Sight.

I want to abet the unsettled one.” he chanted.

Lukhanyiso opened his eyes slowly and was amazed to see someone standing in front of him. It had worked. He possessed the ability. Lukhanyiso was so happy, but then he narrowed his eyes and looked at his helper, he smiled as tears of joy streamed down his flawless face.
