“At least I managed to destroy the contract. You are slowly going to lose everything: the fame, the wealth and the power,” thought Sthembile to herself. Suddenly an idea came to her mind. She pushed her way through the crowd and walked with determination. People fell down as she rushed towards the stage. She asked the DJ to turn the volume down a little, and she borrowed his mic.

“Excuse me!” Her voice boomed out from every speaker at the party. Everybody stopped dancing and the crowd fell quiet. The journalists from Igagasi FM stood with their cameras ready to roll and their microphones ready to record. “My name is Sthembile Goge. It is with great sadness to announce here today that this will be the last time that you will attend this annual event.”

The crowd mocked her. They said that she was drunk, that she needed to get off the stage and go home to sleep.

“My father was the founder of Red Reborn Ministries!” shouted Sthembile, ignoring the comments from the crowd. “He invented this event for his evil ways! The main purpose was to have a way of conducting his ritual ceremonies with minimised chances of failure, because his rituals mostly required young people to be sacrificed. In case you hadn’t noticed, there are missing girls and boys every year after this event. All their cases up to today haven’t been finalised, and people are quick to forget about them.”

She stopped talking and looked up to where Pearl and her family were still flying around above them. They also looked down at her as if she was telling a joke. Who was going to believe her? She wasn’t the first to make these accusations, and she certainly wasn’t going to be the last.

“I’m proud to say that I’ve just successfully and completely destroyed the contract that my father signed with the devil. Tonight is the night that my brother and I planned to destroy everything that our father created. So it’s only a matter of time before those bats above us fall on their evil asses and are cast out to hell where they belong!” shouted Sthembile, looking up at them once more. “The bad news is that my brother didn’t make it! He was killed here by those filthy creatures! I promise you, you will not get away with that!”

With these words, Sthembile’s eyes turned red and she dropped the mic. She transformed into a giant eagle and soared up to the bats. She got to the old man first, gripped him with her talons, tore his neck and threw him into the ocean at full speed.

She was met with an invisible punch when she turned to face the two siblings. This sent her back down to the shores of the beach. Like a cat, she landed on her feet. Her talons drew three lines in the sand as she balanced. The sudden screaming of the people caught Sthembile’s attention.

“Zombie! Zombie!” one guy screamed as he ran towards the sea.

Sthembile quickly transformed back into a human and ran to see what they were talking about. Sthembiso was emerging from the sand, his bruised face covered in blood. He started to dig in the sand and then he helped his girlfriend Zeh to emerge. Sthembile called for help. Luckily, there were paramedics on standby. They took Zeh into the ambulance and drove away. Sthembiso and Sthembile hugged as they watched the ambulance swerve and disappear.

Pearl’s voice made them jump and they broke the hug. “Oh, what a great re-union…” said Pearl as she looked over at her brother. The two of them were also back in their complete human form, standing before Sthembiso and Sthembile.

“Mhmm mhmm,” Pearl cleared her throat. “My brother and I have been thinking…” Pearl looked over at Richard for backup as she said this.

“Well…since your brother is here and he isn’t dead, we hope that you are not going to have to avenge him anymore. We would unconditionally like to surrender…” said Richard. He was begging with his hands pressed together.

“Yes. We understand that we’ve lived our lives in the worst possible way. We’re not the same without our powers. And we’re ready for change. We no longer want to be evil slaves,” continued Pearl.

Richard shrugged and moved his gaze from Sthembiso to Sthembile and then to his sister. “It’s not like we enjoyed the life we’ve been living,” he explained. “We had no choice, unlike you. Your father chose the good life for you. Please let us put this behind us and start over again.”

Sthembile looked at her brother with an ‘I feel for them’ face and shrugged. “What do you think?” she asked her twin.

“Everyone deserves a second chance, sis,” answered Sthembiso. “Besides, we accomplished our mission, which I believe was to save people, wasn’t it?”

Sthembile smiled and nodded at her twin brother.

The End
