Benjamin had travelled all night and finally he had reached where he was going. A gust of morning wind blowing on his face reminded him of his family that he left behind. He was at a different place, a quieter place and he couldn’t help himself hoping that this would be a more peaceful place.
He was not missing the noise and the chaos of the city yet, he was enjoying the freedom and discreet sounds of the country. He compared the life he was heading to live and the life he had left behind, and he knew one thing, there was no turning back.
The morning was pleasant, almost as if acting as a confirmation of his welcome. The birds were singing and flying high up and trees were swaying to the wind. Nature just filled the atmosphere.
Benjamin was walking on a path way that was leading him to the house that harboured all his secrets. He saw a tiny house some distance away and he knew he had reached his destination. A woman was hanging washing on the line and it was gently being blown by the wind.
Even the fluttering sound made by her laundry garments sounded peaceful. Benjamin walked up closer to the woman, his pace picking up with excitement. He was going to greet his second wife with a kiss.
The man walked with pride to greet his wife, with a smile that was hovering on the corners of his mouth since he stepped out of the bus. She saw him and ran to his arms, leaving the washing unattended. They embraced as two people would when they hadn’t seen each other in a long time.
“My love,” he said as he kissed her passionately. They stood for a while and held on to each other and like every time when they were together, Benjamin was a man without problems. He looked up and smiled at her, he felt like a real man with no secrets in his life. For once, he felt like he wasn’t an island.
Life was simpler now for Benjamin. A load had been lifted off his shoulders and he felt better about life. No more lies, no more secrets, just him and his young wife and their new born baby. He knew he would have to provide for them no matter how simple a life they lived but that could be taken care of.
Right now I will enjoy my wife and kid, tomorrow will sort itself out, Benjamin thought to himself as he dug in to plate of hot food made by his loving new wife.
