When I wake up, I am on the couch and the sun is already out. Mylah has cleaned around the house and she is singing. “You are up, daddy!” she screams, hugging me.

While she is speaking, I suddenly remember the events that had led to me fainting. “You killed Sapphire,” I scream, pushing her away from me.

“It was not me,” she responds, shouting.

“It was. I saw you … eat her,” I say, standing up.

“Daddy, please, stop being melodramatic,” she responds.

“I did not want to do this, but I have to take you to the police station,” I say, shouting. “But I do not know what they will do with a half breed monster like you.”

“What did you just call me?” Mylah asks, crying.

“A half breed. You are a disgrace to human kind,” I respond, shouting at her.

In response, Mayla wails and then collapses to the floor in a fit of rage. When she looks up, she has her teeth and claws out, and her eyes are a damp grey. “I am a half breed?” she asks, howling.

“I should have killed you when I had the chance,” I respond. “I should have never let you grow up.”

As I speak, Mylah gets angrier and she slashes at my face with her claws.

“No matter what you do, you will never be good enough,” I say, laughing, but then she slashes me on the chest. “You are not even brave enough to kill. Where have you ever seen a monster who wants to save people’s lives?” I ask, mercilessly laughing at her.

Mylah howls in response, jumps up on me, and then slashes my face once more, so I scream and wince in response.

“I am sorry daddy,” she says, crying out.

“She does not understand that I am doing this for her,” I think to myself. “I understand what the diary said. Her loved one must die at her hands in order for her to be free and lead a normal life, and she has already killed two people today: Sapphire and that other girl.”

“I am sorry, daddy,” she says, getting up and trying to help me up.

“You are such a useless daughter!” I say, shaking my head and laughing.

Once I get up, I take out my gun and aim it at her. I am not going to shoot her, I just want her to get agitated and kill me so she can have a normal life. It is a life for a life. Janine had tried her sacrifice and it did not work, so here is my sacrifice. I will die to save her, and I hope the master will have mercy on her.

While I am pointing the gun at her, she jumps at me and, in one single go, her claws sink into my chest. I then breathe heavily as life slowly oozes out of me.

“I am sorry daddy. I did not mean to do it,” she says.

“Take my body to the master,” I say, shoving a piece of paper into her hand. “To summon him, chant this prayer eight times, and you will then be free.”

“Daddy, please do not die,” she says.

“I love you, princess. Take care. This is my last gift to you. A life for a life,” I respond, squeezing her hand and slowly closing my eyes.

In my mind’s eye, I see Janine waiting for me on the other side. I walk over to her and we walk towards a bright light together, holding hands. All the best to our daughter, Mylah with her new normal life.
