The week after the first lecture, a new wave of returning students and new students were on campus. Everywhere was bustling more than usual or perhaps more than the previous week. I was able to secure my ‘owner’s corner’ or ‘vantage point’ in the General Lecture Theater(GLT) and in my department’s Lecture Class I(LCI).

A mindblowing and thought-changing experience started in the General Lecture Theater. I was seated in my usual corner seat, and the lecture was going on when a major distraction occurred. It was very hard to beleive but too real to brush off.

Meet Becky, the typical kind of girl you hear about or read about or watch in soap operas. She wore scanty clothes, she chewed gum , and she walked into the class with headphones blasting heavy metal music which was audible to the nearest person. Nobody could believe she was a new student like us, even the lecturer was shocked. This girl commanded suprise and a wave of shouts for a few minutes and the lecturer was forced to used one of their class control methods: keeping silent and continue delivering lecture whether students are listening or not. Becky was one of those friends Dad and Mom warned me to stay away from. Some guys whistled and some ladies giggled and hissed.

The most astonishing part was Becky’s reaction was that she had no reaction at all. She was really out of our league: she didn’t care. She could have taken the back door which would have saved her from the attention, but she had the audacity and guts to take the front door which is the center of attraction of the Lecture Theater. She was kind of swaying to her music as she figured out a place to sit. How she noticed any empty seats truly suprised me and then I noticed the space beside me was empty

“Holy shit! Of all empty seats in this hall, why the one next to me?” I muttered angrily, but I tried to be friendly as she appeared intelligent.

“Don’t judge me and I won’t judge you,” that was Chris Brown singing from her headphones, it wasn’t shouting anymore, she reduced the volume.
