“When I was young, I wanted to be a teacher but due to my family background, I couldn’t. I never saw myself as a cleaner. I never wanted to be one. It wasn’t even on my mind or something I wanted for my future, but it just happened and I am hoping to fulfil my dream of becoming a teacher in the near future, even though it might take time, you don’t worry my son, I will be one.”
“You are very lucky because your mom is saving up for you so that when the time comes for you to be in university, you won’t go through the same emotional stress I went through,” continued Gladys.
“But mom, won’t it be too late by the time you want to fulfil your dream?”
“My son, the is a saying, it is just that I forgot who said it but “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.” So I am not going to give up now or anytime soon. Don’t let our neighbours’ success intimidate you. We don’t know the torture or struggle they went through before accumulating their wealth. We just have to be proud as a peacock in our situation. Keep the ball rolling and never lose focus.”
“Some of my classmates that I matriculated with, are now in the corporate business, some are entrepreneurs, others doctors and so on but I am not intimidated by their success, in fact I am happy that they have achieved something on their journey.”
The story of Prince’s mom filled him with faith that maybe one day his mom was going to be what she wanted despite the situation faced at home. He just decided to believe in her.
Gladys is a hard worker who never settled for less, but always fought for the best in her life. She ensured that no matter the situation she was faced with, she made sure that her son didn’t go to sleep on an empty stomach.
Gladys never had a quarrel with anyone at work. She was a modest and respectful woman who everyone cherished having around, especially for her funny jokes. An ever smiling lady with a good heart of Ubuntu.
One day when Michael was dining with his wife, he said, “You know what my wife, I am so lucky to have Gladys as one of my employees as well as our neighbour.”
“Oh wow, I didn’t know that. I just see her just like how I see everybody,” Roshell replied in a jealous tone.
“My wife, Gladys worked for me for years and I can tell you that she is good at her work.”
Roshell took it the other way round, that her husband was interested in Gladys perhaps.
Roshell met Gladys who was on her way to church early in the morning on Sunday.
Out of anger she said, “Please stay away from my husband. The only relationship you have is a work relationship, nothing more than that. Don’t even try to flirt with him.”
Gladys who was in good mood as she was heading to church, felt awful and turned away as she was astonished by Roshell’s remarks. She didn’t want to look sad at church, people would know that something was wrong.
