Glen eventually came to tell us as to what we were going to do.
“So I’ve got everything we need. The boy is not going to be a problem if you keep your cool around him. The security will be detailed around the yard, which is why we have to get the money before it gets into the yard. They hired a security armoured truck to escort the money on a daily basis from the games to their place. The truck has three people in it,” Glen said.
“No, it’s four people! The fourth one never leaves the truck, no matter what,” Remy corrected.
“Okay, it’s four people then. We will stop that truck before it reaches the gate. My friend will plant some nails on the gravel road so that it will stop the Coles from getting in. The drive way is too narrow for two cars, which means the truck will have to stop. Which is where we will hit them,” Glen said.
It sounded easy as he said it. He is used to such things, I thought to myself.
“There’s another way,” Remy said in almost a whisper.
We looked at him and listened to what he had to say.
Sunday came and I hadn’t slept a wink, and by the look of Tumi’s eyes, she hadn’t also. We were about to do something dangerous; the worrying had escalated.
Later that day we went off to the Coles. We got inside the yard through Glen’s friend and proceeded with our plan. We dug our way inside the office as it was one of those wooden cabin offices. We waited underneath.
The Coles arrived with the amour truck. The guards put the money inside the volt in the office exactly, how Remy had predicted. After they had left and Mr Cole had locked the office, we made our way inside.
Glen came with the machinery to melt the steel of the volt and open it. We started connecting everything and started working. We opened the volt and the money inside was a lot. We all stood and looked at it before putting it into the bag.
The dogs started barking from outside the office as we were putting the money in the bags. They had found the hole that we had dug and they were digging. They were heading straight to us.
“What is it boys?” Mr Cole said as he made his way to the sound of the barking dogs.
“Shit! He is coming, what do we do now?” Tumi said in fear.
Mr Cole found the hole.
He started making his way to the front door of the office, walking briskly. He inserted the key and unlocked the door. We were all frozen. He opened the door and came inside. He started scanning around, and then he saw the volt.
Glen, from behind, hit him with the back of his gun. The dogs proceeded making their way inside the office and Glen shut the door just before they got in.
“Let’s move, now.” Glen said as we went back underneath the office and outside.
We started running with bags of money to the car. The dogs made us and started giving chase, alerting the guards. They also gave chase. We got to the car and drove off!
As we sped away, a car came in front of us in full speed. It was heading directly for us. There was no other way but to stop. The car stopped and out came Worm holding a shot gun.
Glen opened fire! He fired through the windscreen of the car.
“Out, out let’s go!” Glen shouted as he opened the door and ran to get Worm’s gun. He told us to get inside the car that Worm had been driving. Worm was lying on the ground, he was moving though. I was shocked, scared and relieved.
We drove off with Worm’s car and headed to our getaway spot.
“Damn man, did you really have to shoot him? Twice?” I yelled at Glen.
“I had no choice, he had us cold. What was I supposed to do?” he yelled back.
“Guys stop it! Let’s just go home,” Tumi said.
“No one is going anywhere,” Glen said as he pointed the gun at us.
“What are you doing?” Tumi said.
“I’m taking this money, and there’s nothing you are going to do. Get down!” Glen said.
“Ngazohlanya wena…”
BANG! Glen shot Remy as he was talking.
“Don’t try me, I’m taking this money! Now get down!” Glen yelled at us.
We got down, and watched him getting into the car and leaving with the money. We carried Remy back home with us, hoping we don’t get caught along the way. We arrived at home and we helped stop the bleeding from his shoulder.
“I can’t believe he would do that to us, to me,” Tumi said in tears.
“Why didn’t I see this coming? He is a con I should’ve seen it,” I said in frustration.
Police siren sounded from a distance heading to our house.
“We have to get out of here!” I yelled.
“What about Remy, he can’t go anywhere in this state?” Tumi said.
“No guys, you can leave I will be fine,” Remy said.
“No, we can’t leave you here like this. Let’s go, we will carry you!” I said.
“Better I get caught, than all of us. Your father needs you!” Remy said.
We left leaving him inside the house. Couple of days later my dad passed away!
Tumi and I are now in hiding. Where we are however, I can’t say. I haven’t heard anything about Remy and asking around would be suspicious. So for now, we lay in the darkness and wait for our chance. We will revenge our father’s death.
