The Grade 8 exams were over. The students of Trinech Secondary School celebrated with relief.

“Now that the exams are over, we’re gonna party all night come December,” chanted the female students. “Ma gents, this holiday we’re gonna get fucked up,” shouted the male students. Everybody had plans for the holiday, except Doyle and Kyle, the two nerds of Grade 9.

“Ha, ha. You’ve got to love the craziness that occurs whenever we finish writing the exams,” Kyle exclaimed.

“Of our classmates?” Doyle asked.

“Yeah,”

“They’re living the good life; going to parties, hooking up and getting laid while we do nothing but watch,” Doyle said in frustration.

“Ai, since when do you care about partying and stuff?”

“’’m just kidding bra. The exams have just been hectic, that’s all,” Doyle lied.

“Yeah I know bra. Now that we’re done it’s game time,” Kyle said.

“FIFA 14?”

“Nah, I’m gonna buy Call Of Duty and you, is there any game that caught your eye?”

“Yeah, the Last of us, but it’s too expensive. The games that I have will do,”
Doyle replied.

“After the holidays we’ll be ready for Grade 9,” Kyle said.

“Yeah…” Doyle was tired of school. He had got good grades since he started school. His marks were always 80% and higher. Teachers always expected him to do well while others of his age had fun with their lives. This bothered Doyle somehow.

Kyle was Doyle’s best school buddy. Back home he had few friends, mainly because his parents were strict and over protective.

“Doyle!” Kyle said.

“Heh? What?” he responded.

“Ai, you weren’t listening?”

“Sorry, my mind was somewhere else,”

There were suddenly cheers and whistles of excitement as a car span in a circular fashion outside the school. The two guys spinning the car were Rowden and James; the school’s badass students. They continued to spin the car around the road, and their efforts were met with applause from the students.

“Ai. Those idiots will get themselves killed,” Kyle predicted.

“Yeah, they will,” Doyle said but he wished that he was the one getting those applause from the students.

It was a long and productive holiday for Doyle. Doyle spent the holiday watching gangster movies and listening to gangster music. He saw what made them tick. Doyle would see the rave reviews that the gangster duo he knew got of their parties on their Facebook’s walls.

Gr8 party Rowden u rock,

Best bash of de year James,

U guys knw hw 2 make a party,

Doyle would read some of the compliments both Rowden and James received. Those guys behaved like gangsters, not the violent ones but cool ones. That’s what made them popular. They treated girls like objects and swore at teachers like nobody’s business. Doyle imagined how cool it would be to be amongst them, he would become popular and everyone would respect him.

Doyle was a social outcast which is why he had difficulty getting a girlfriend. He was popular at school for one thing though, being used for his brains. You don’t understand? Well
Doyle’s classmates, especially girls, would ask him for help with schoolwork, after he helped them they wouldn’t talk with him anymore.

It was like chewing a bubble gum and spitting it when it’s not tasteful anymore. It’s not that Doyle couldn’t say no to girls that wanted his help, he just couldn’t get the strength to say “Votsek I’m not your slave,” mainly to beautiful girls that would ask him for help. Particularly this chick called Naomi (Queen of seduction), whom Doyle was fond of and she knew.

He would always nod or say yes to whatever she asked him. Doyle promised himself one thing in the New Year, which was that he would become a new person that wouldn’t let anyone to take advantage of him. He would become popular and most importantly get
RESPECT.
