“What the hell happened here?” a female detective said back at the Jacob residence.

A neighbour had called the police after hearing gunshots, and the Armed Response officers were also at the scene.

“We found three dead bodies,” said one of the police officers to the detective. “One of them is Mr Jacob, but there’s no sign of his wife and son.”

“Have you tried tracking her cell-phone or the car?”

“The cell-phone was found on top the coffee table and the car is still in the garage. All their clothes seem to be in place, and there’s no sign of luggage being taken.”

“So they just disappeared into thin air?” the detective asked, sounding angrier by minute.

“Well, the armed response officers did find a vehicle on Eskine Street. It had flipped over and it also had broken windows and burst tires.”

“Get the forensic team down there immediately. If there’s any blood in that car, we need to examine it. Quickly.”

“Yes mam.” the officer said, walking out of the scene.

Mrs Jacob walked out of the room and found Nick with the rest of the team, busy on the computers.

“Is he still sleeping?” Nick asked, and Mrs Jacob nodded in response.

“He must be really exhausted after what he went through today,” Nick continued. “Anyway, let me introduce you to the rest of the team. This is Alvaro,” he pointed at the guy at the computer wearing glasses. “And this is Chad,” he pointed at the other guy on the left corner, also busy on a computer.

“Nice to meet you.” Chad said, while Alvaro only smiled at Mrs Jacob.

While Nick was busy introducing Mrs Jacob to the team, he received a call from Lindi. “What have you got?” he said, not bothering to greet.

“The Crea wanted to kill him when I got here, but I killed it first,” Lindi said. She was now sitting the living room with Mr Jones. “I’m still not sure if it was the same Crea that hired him, though. This one was too weak.”

“What did Mr Jones say about it?”

“He doesn’t know anything,” Lindi said, looking Mr Jones while he sat on a couch. “He said he was hired over the phone by one, so he can’t really tell if it was the same one as the one I just killed. He said the Crea called him a few minutes before the one I killed showed up.”

“It’s possible The Crea must have been close, so keep an eye out.”

“Or the Crea sent another Crea to keep an eye on him in case he gets the child and it can take it, or if he fails, then it would kill him, like it just tried to.”

“Burn The Crea’s body, and get rid of Mr Jones too,” Nick said, then hung up the call.

When the line went dead, Lindi slid her phone back into her jean pocket and turn to Mr Jones.

“Please, I told you everything I know,” Mr Jones said, realising what was about to happen. “I only wanted the money.”

“I know,” Lindi said, then she took out a small knife from her jacket and threw it at Mr Jones, landing it on his neck.
