I woke up at the break of dawn, did my chores and took a shower. Then I went to wake mom up.
“Molo, mama,” I rushed to her and kissed her on the cheek.
Just when I was about to leave, “Hey, Akhona, don’t stay there for long, alright.”
“Yes, mom.”
I was rushing to meet Chris. He had just come home after some time in school. He was in his second year. I really missed him and I couldn’t wait to see him again. I arrived at his house and rang the bell.
“Akhona, how are you?” his mother came out to greet me and gave me a warm hug, “Come in. Chris is in his room, I’ll call him for you, okay.”
I nodded.
She went upstairs to call him. I must admit his family’s house was a wonder to gaze upon. As I was standing there motionless, still waiting for him, his mom came down and said, “He’ll be down shortly. Have a seat, Akhona, why are you so uncomfortable?” She pinched my cheek as she said, “Silly.”
“Akhona, I thought that you wouldn’t come.” He was as charming as ever.
“Well, here I am,” I chuckled, nervously.
“I wanted to show you our garden,” he said.
Before he went back to school, we planted a little garden in their backyard.
“Our garden, it must be very beautiful by now,” he looked at me and said, “like the one who planted it.”
I couldn’t hide how red my cheeks had become from blushing, “So shall we, miss.?”
“We shall,” we both laughed and headed for the garden.
“Wow, the flower garden is beautiful, Chris. But, are you sure we should be here. It’s about to rain?”
“Are you afraid of the rain?”
Before I could even answer, it started raining.
“I know how to answer your question, Chris.”
I ran in the rain, and started twirling. Rain was one of my favourite gifts of nature. I loved splashing into mud puddles and making the water underneath my feet go, splat!
He hugged me from behind.
“Chris, what are you doing?”
He didn’t respond. He held me tight around my waist and his breath on my neck was getting warmer. I turned my head to him, our eyes met. We ignored the rain, the thunder and lightning. At that moment, it was only us.
I couldn’t help it anymore, I’d been longing for his touch so I kissed him. My heartbeat was getting louder by each passing second, my blood was boiling. As we kissed, he held me tighter and tighter around my waist. That kiss in the rain was something I’ll never forget.
Who knew that a girl who spent most of her life despising men could fall madly in love with one. From this point, I don’t know where life will take me. And frankly, I really don’t care. Although, I wish it never strays me far away from him.
