Tingly sensation

“So this is earth,” Andrea said as she stared around in amazement, “it’s not bad, not bad at all.”

“Come on, we have to get in. It’s getting windy.”

The two walked in. Andrea couldn’t stop asking silly questions. Katongo laughed and answered them all. Katongo changed into her human girl clothes and walked to the kitchen where Andrea was left. Andrea began to laugh when she saw Katongo.

“What is that you’re wearing?” she laughed, “It makes you look like a clown.”

“Oh shut up Andrea,” replied Katongo, now very embarrassed. “This is what human girls wear.”

“If I’m going to blend in with the humans, I suppose I have to wear their clothes. Do you have any more left?”

“Yesterday I went shopping for my clothes, but I guess I will not need all of them. I have just the right outfit for you,” she said.

Katongo grabbed Andrea and took her to the bedroom. She carefully removed the bags from underneath the bed. She took out a lovely pink dress and Andrea tried it on. It was a perfect fit. It made her beautiful short brunette hair stand out.

Soon after they both got some shut eye.

The next morning, Katongo was very eager to show Andrea around. They both stretched and yawned. Katongo put her phone in her pocket and looked out the window, and she saw the sun was up in the sky. They walked to the kitchen where Katongo prepared breakfast. She put an empty plate on the table; next, she drew a circle in the air, clapped her hands once and snapped her fingers twice. A heap of lettuce and apples appeared on the plate. The two ate up. They stood up and twirled three times and they were good as new.

The two larked along the pavement where Andrea asked more silly questions. Katongo was glad to answer all of them. They passed a fire hydrant, some boutiques and a construction site. Katongo’s phone began to ring. She looked at who was calling – it was Lucy! She quickly answered it.

“Hello Lucy, what a surprise.”

“I hope it’s a pleasant one,” Lucy responded.

“It is – I was really hoping you’d call.”

“I was calling to invite you to a picnic with my brother and our friends.”

“That sounds splendid! I would love to come. Do you mind if I bring along a friend?”

“Not at all, the picnic will begin in half an hour. I’ll text you the location, I hope to see you soon!”

“I’ll be there. Bye.” Katongo hang-up.

The two jumped up and down like two little girls and squealed with joy. A message popped up on Katongo’s phone – it was the location. She read it out loud and the pair walked there. Andrea curiously looked at Katongo’s phone. Katongo noticed her friend’s curiosity.

“Katongo, can I see that hard shiny thing in your hand?”

“Oh sure, just be careful not to break it,” she said as she handed it to her.

Andrea began to lick it and chew on it.

“Andrea! Stop that, stop it this instant! You don’t chew on it, you use it to talk to people who are far off and to take pictures and do other things,” Katongo said, and snatched the phone from Andrea’s hand.

Andrea scratched her head in shame and looked to the ground. She felt like a chump. Katongo saw how ashamed and embarrassed her friend was and she laughed hard. Andrea instantly joined in on the laughter and soon forgot about her shame.

They soon arrived at the gathering spot. It was a small piece of land right beside a stream with little trees growing by the stream’s end. Lucy, Daniel and the others were seated on a reed mat and waved to Katongo and Andrea.

“Do not act so stupid Andrea, it will make you look bad and it will probably make the humans despise us. Now do as I do and speak what you feel is right,” said Katongo, because she knew more about humans than Andrea did.

Andrea nodded in response and they walked to the others. They all welcomed them gladly.

“Katongo, Daniel and I are so glad you made it,” said Lucy with a smile. “These are my friends Greg and Wanda.”

“And this is my friend Andrea.”

“Come sit with us.”

Katongo and Andrea sat down on the mat. Everyone talked for hours and watched comedies on the internet until it was time to go home. The sun began to set and the roads began to quieten down – night was falling. They said their goodbyes and went to their homes. Katongo watched as Daniel put the reed mad in the van and drove off.

Back home the two couldn’t stop talking about the gathering and how nice and friendly everyone was. They showered and changed into their fairy clothes.

“Katongo, it was really fun seeing the human world and all, but I really want to go home,” said a tired Andrea.

“Me too, I’m sure everyone we know is worried about us. Let me hide our clothes and we can go back.”
