The eye of the heavens
Gradually drowns into
A pool of blood
On the western horizon

The herd-boy drives
The cattle into the kraal
The bull bellows pompously
A cow lows
And its calf answers

All round their shepherd
Like water
The goats flow down
The hill
Brushing their bodies
Against his knees

Most birds roost, resting
In their nests
Then a merciful silence haunts
Then I know
It’s sunset
