The persistent rains
That came in installments
With little breaks
Raised water levels
Above the ground

In three days it did come
Infiltrating into the ground
Only to rise up again
It did not percolate inside
But chose to flood on the ground

On the rooftops it reached
Carrying everything in its way
Into the lower Shire
People, goods, crops, and animals
Together down into Shire river
Only to recover their dead bodies

Many people were left homeless
Their houses fallen
Oh, their crops destroyed
And their goods carried away too
Down into the river with waters

The floods have left people
Mourning for the lost family and friends
Crying for the lost goods and crops
Hungry, for the taken food
Cold for the lost shelter.
