I know I never say this out loud but I love you.
I love you because you loved me first.
You carried me in your warm womb for nine months.
You gave birth to me.
Poverty was striking, yet you raised me.
As uneducated as you were,
you made sure I finished school.
Even when I was not on my best behaviour
you whipped me back to my senses.
I’m moody and stubborn,
yet you don’t give up on me.
For that I thank you.
You have been my pillar through it all.
Though we fight, I know
you will always have my back.
You were there through my first heartbreak.
You were there when I gave birth to my angel.
You are still here and for that I thank you.
I may not understand your pain
but I always pray that someday
God will heal your shattered heart.
I know your struggles
and I know in the end you will conquer.
I love you even when you are angry at me.
I love you when you are happy.
I love you when we disagree on something.
I love you for being both mother
and father to my child.
You are my pillar of strength and I pray
that God blesses you with so many years
that I will be able to take care of you,
like you took care of me.
You are a heroine,
you are a queen,
you are god.
My pillar,
Mlangeni Puseletso Maria.
