I remember being young and carefree –
untouched by fear or failure.
I remember playing till so late and wondering
how to slip into the house like someone who had not left.
I remember being tied to a chair at the ankles, knees and waist in grade 2
for constantly walking around and being disruptive during class.
I remember wriggling myself free from those restraints and letting out a huge smile
followed by a loud giggle at my teacher’s facial expression
I remember realising this soul was not meant
to be tamed or restrained.
I remember being so hopeful and looking at life through big eyes
and thinking about the endless possibilities, opportunities and dreams.
