In my country, I see people gripped by fear,
Glass in their eyes, brimful with terrible tears,
Heart locked in the tight hold of sorrow,
Uncertain if they’ll get to see tomorrow.
In my country, I hope to remind them of who we are;
That we’re the rainbow nation, the human manifestation of the stars.
It is at such times as these, in the darkness of heavy clouds,
That we come out and shine and thus claim our identity, beyond any doubt.
In my country, I strive for love, peace, light and hope,
To forever entrench in our souls and remember that even against the ropes,
We still have it in us to overcome, to persevere and ultimately conquer
Anything that’s thrown our way and thus inspire nations to do the same, the world over.
