My mother’s cellphone
Knew my hands were
Clumsy
The screen cracked, and
The whipping was awful
The lightning and thunder
There was no sleep
No touching metal or water
Hiding inside a closet
Running away from dogs
But eventually caught up
Sharp teeth tearing all the fabric
My skin survived when I was rescued from a shout
First time reading a book
Unable to let it go
Unable to give my mind a rest
My eyes unable to blink
The return of a memory
When I had gone inside my room
Needing my warm jacket
But never recalled why I was there
