What was not to like
about her?
How many songs
had he heard that said,
“She takes
my breath away?”
Now that line
made sense.
When their eyes locked,
her eyes burnt his,
like he’d been
staring at the sun
too long.

He’d lose his voice,
his cheeks flushed hot,
and his stomach
became heavy.
His heart pounded
in his throat,
to break out.
She was
his crush,
but she
would never be his.
She was
with someone else.
He had heard
but not seen it.
It was clear,
his nature of being
easily excited
had failed him, again.
That much already
he knew.
